EuroVelo 2 Capitals Route

Republic of Ireland

The Capitals Route reaches its westernmost point in the city of Galway in western Ireland. Currently under development, this route when completed, will be traffic free for most of its length. The first section of the route from Dublin westwards will be on canal tow path as far as Mullingar in the midlands. West of Mullingar the route will be on disused railway and other traffic free options.

National EuroVelo Coordination Centre

The National Trails Office (NTO) is a unit of the Irish Sports Council. The NTO maintains a database of signposted walking and cycling routes in the country.

It has been advocating since 2008 for cycling to be a normal part of everyday life in Ireland - both everyday cycling and recreational / tourism cycling. is a federation of over 20 member organisations, including larger groups in Ireland's cities and very active groups in many of our towns and rural areas. These include greenway promotion groups and bicycle festival organisations.

Galway to Dublin Cycleway

The Dublin to Galway Cycleway is set to be a world class recreational trail, providing a unique means for visitors and domestic users to access the beauty and diversity of Ireland over a 276km corridor linking the two cities . This website has the most up to date information on the progress of the route which is due to be finished by 2020.
